On March 5th, English Corner was held in the library and the topic was American history.Tonight, the overseas teachers present were: Dr. Richard Stopford, Mr. Charlie Ries, Mr. Sean McHugh and Mr. Christopher Dockstader.
When it came to American history, Mr. Sean McHugh was well-informed. He started his introduction from Plymouth. Being asked why Plymouth, Mr. Sean McHugh explained that it was in Plymouth that some homeless Europeans without money and power settled down in America at the very first day. They brought European lifestyle and culture which is now a precious part of the USA.
Next station, Philadelphia. A students said, “ I know it! The Declaration of Independence was announced in Philadelphia! ” “ That’ s right! ” Mr. Sean McHugh added with a smile, “ In addition to ‘ All men are created equal ’, it also announced that USA was born as an new independent country. ”
The terminus, Washington. “ You know Washington is not only a capital city but the birthplace of the Emancipation Proclamation. The abolishment of the Slavery have gone through a long and tough process. ” Mr. Sean McHugh stopped here instead of giving more details.
