A Lecture: Comparative Genre Analysis of MA Thesis Introductions Written by Chinese and English Native Speaker Students and the Implications for Academic Writing Teaching

At 15:30, on July 20, Sun Yinghui, a professor from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature of Beijing Normal University, was invited by the SFL to give a lecture entitled Comparative Genre Analysis of MA Thesis Introductions Written by Chinese and English Native Speaker Students and the Implications for Academic Writing Teaching.
From the approach of System Function Linguistics and English for Specific Purposes, Professor Sun took Swales (1990)’s ''''Creating a Research Space'''' (CARS) as a model to analyze Chinese and native speaker students’ introductions of MA theses, and put forth some implications for academic writing teaching. Professor Sun also shared with the teachers her own research experience and suggested that research should be combined with real-life teaching.
Professor Sun also shared with the teachersher project of "Web-based Autonomous Listening Course". This project combined modern network technology, conducted a great reform in listening teaching in the School of Foreign Languages of BNU, and achieved great success.The teachers present were interested in the project. Professor TaoWenhao,Dean of the SFL, asked some detailed questions. The other teachers joined the discussion and the lecture was concluded in a harmoniously heated atmosphere.
