At 10 a.m., on November 5th, the SFL held an academic lecture in Liyun B301. The lecture entitled “Foreign Language Learning and Linguistic Competence” was given by Associate Professor Lin Hong, Secretary of the Branch Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature of BNU.

Mr. Lin first of all mentioned 3 basic elements for foreign language learning, i.e., taking initiatives, analyzing a problem and team work. Then he illustrated 4 essential guidelines, “knowing what”, “knowing why”, “knowing how” and “knowing who”, and concluded by saying, “Motivation comes from the need within.”

Mr. Lin gave the lecture vividly and humorously and students were greatly impressed by the examples and anecdotes he gave to illustrate his points.
