By Guo Rui
At 7:00 P.M. on May 11, Mr. Martin Stannard, one of the English native teachers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, gave a lecture entitled ‘The Meaning of Life’ in Liyun Building Room B201.
This lecture was very popular, and the classroom was full of students from every grade. The lecture started with a question “what would happen to the world of human beings, if there was no literature”. Mr. Martin Stannard illustrated it with his own experiences, such as his favorite music, books, and stars in his childhood, and his stories of growth. Everybody enjoyed it. At last, Mr. Martin Stannard came to the conclusion that the art appeared after human satisfying their physical needs, and the world would be lonely without the art, so the meaning of life was acting, creating and using the imagination.
This question, the meaning of life, is one of the most difficult questions with a long history. This lecture helped students figure out the meaning of life. Many students said they were enlightened by the lecture.
