演讲内容简介:
In this lecture Mr. James Gardiner will be attempting to demonstrate that the idea of a single, unified ‘British accent’ is a myth that is largely perpetuated by idealised media images and English language textbooks and materials. Through audio examples and interactive responses with the audience, he hopes to show that the key to mastering spoken English lies not in attempting to mask your identity behind a falsely constructed imitation accent, but in accepting that perceived notions of a hierarchy of accents is only applicable to those who are born into the social system and country the language originates from. In other words, non-native speakers should spend less time worrying about accent and more time worrying about pronunciation; be proud of where you come from, your accent is part of who you are.
