Mr. Andrew Chun
Aloha, my name is Andrew Chun. BNUZ has been my workplace and home for more than two years. Prior to living in China; Thailand was my home for two years.
I was born and raised in Hawaii, USA. Hawaii is the 50th state of the USA. Many call it an island paradise. Hawaii is comprised of eight major islands and I am from Oahu, the most populous island. The weather is fantastic year round and many of the residents participate in outdoor activities. I enjoyed playing sports like American football, softball, volleyball, tennis and basketball. Of course I also went body surfing at a popular beach on Oahu. Hawaii is a multicultural place. I have classmates, friends and former co-workers of Chinese, Japanese, Caucasian, Korean, Hawaiian, Filipino and Vietnamese heritage.
I graduated from the University of Hawaii, on Oahu. I had artistic ability from a young age and became aware of a profession called graphic design before enrolling at the university. My decision to major in graphic design was a natural choice because I could be artistic and earn a living.
My first full time job after graduating from the university was at a prominent graphic design firm in Hawaii. I worked there for ten years and grew immensely as a designer. I worked on a huge variety of print design projects including: corporate identity, logos, books, newspaper and magazine ads, brochures, calendars, T-shirts and food packaging. I completed projects for many of the largest and well-known companies in the state of Hawaii. One highlight was being able to design several US postage stamps. I began as a staff designer and rose in position to Senior Designer.
After resigning from my job, I decided to go on a traveling adventure. I rented an apartment in Thailand and being in Asia made it convenient to visit many neighboring countries. I explored Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Thailand, England and Holland. Each country had fantastic cuisine. There were amazing human creations like the Great Wall and Terra-cotta Army in China, Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Stonehenge in England.
I will not forget the natural beauty too: Halong Bay and Dalat in Vietnam, rock formations in Krabi and beautiful beaches on Samui and Phuket in Thailand.
My travel adventure ended as I enrolled in and completed a TEFL course in Bangkok. Next, I moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is a beautiful northern city and some parts resemble my hometown. I decided to postpone teaching and several months later opened a restaurant. Sadly, I closed the business because numerous political problems in Thailand negatively affected tourist arrivals and revenue. The next stop for me was Guangdong, China.
My hobbies include: watching movies, reading, singing, playing the Hawaiian ukulele, trying new foods. Hopefully I will be able to visit all seven continents around the world; there are too many places I want to visit. These are the other countries and places I have visited: Canada (Vancouver, Montreal), USA (Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington State, Washington D.C.), Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore.
