At 7 p.m. on December 5th, Ms. Dulene Cipriano from the School of Foreign Languages held a lecture titled “Diet and Diet Disparities in the U.S.” in Leyu C102. Around 140 students from SFL and other schools attended the lecture.
At the beginning, Ms. Dulene Cipriano showed some data to let students know how many calories and nutritions we should get from food every day. Then, she introduced Americans’ diet habits and made a comment that lots of Americans ate far more than their body actually needed, and lots of the popular food was full of sugar and fat. And these kinds of unhealthy food did great harm to people’s body. Moreover, Ms. Dulene Cipriano also mentioned that Chinese food, such as porridge, was healthier compared to that in America. Finally, she showed a McDonald commercial and explained to the students how commercials about food attracted customers.
After the lecture, the students not only learned the different diet in the East and the West, but also had a deeper understanding of unhealthy food and healthy diet.
