On the evening of December 17th, Mr. Sean McHugh hosted a lecture entitled Overview of the U.S.. With different aspects of U.S., such as symbolic architecture, geography, history, politics, military, sport, food, art and religion, the lecture has briefly covered most part of U.S. society.
In order to make the lecture more interesting, Mr. Sean McHugh turned off the lights in the classroom in the beginning. Sitting in the dark, the students watched various pictures from the slide shows while enjoying the remarkable demonstration of Mr. Sean McHugh, which made the students feel like watching a movie. Beginning with the bald eagle, the most classical symbol of U.S., the lecture introduced the students to more symbols of the United States, including the Statue of Liberty, some famous buildings and hotels, cars, singers, movies, fast food restaurants and so forth, which showed how diverse the U.S. society was. After that, Mr. Sean McHugh highlighted some brief knowledge of U.S. geography, and he also showed some beautiful landscape in U.S. such as Rocky Mountains and the Mississippi.
When it came to the U.S. history and politics, Mr. Sean McHugh showed his impressive memory of historical events. And majoring in music history in the university contributed to his great passion for American arts. He strongly recommended the musicNixon in Chinato the students, while he also expressed his admiration for the Chinese ballet showThe Red Detachment of Women.
Inspired by the great enthusiasm of Mr. Sean McHugh, many students stayed in the classroom for further questions after the lecture.
