8:30 a.m.- 6:00 p.m., November 2nd, the SFL held a meeting to review the thesis proposals of English majors and Japanese majors. The English majors, including the undergraduates of 2010 and the transfer students of 2012, numbered 290 and the Japanese majors 75. Two panels, each consisting of 5 teachers, were formed with Professor Tao Wenhao and Professor Wang Xiaoling as the team leader respectively.
Students’ theses mainly concerned linguistics, literature, culture, translation, and teaching methodology. Most students demonstrated a solid foundation in what they had learned in the past undergraduate years. The panels reviewed and discussed whether a thesis title was related to the major, whether it was too general, and whether it was original and feasible. Besides, they made sure that a title was not the same as one of those titles of previous grades. The panels took notes of comments and suggestions and would soon give the feedbacks to the students and their supervisors.
