At 7p.m on November 7th, a lecture entitled Perspectives on Visual Arts, was given by the overseas teacher from School of Foreign Languages, Mr. Craig Voligny, in LiyunA302.
In the beginning, Mr. Craig Voligny displayed some works of art from different countries in order to analyze the definition of visual art in his mind. Also he asked the students how they understood visual art. And then, he started to explain the meaning of visual art like Ai Weiwei’s Sunflower Seeds and Germany artist Ludig Kirchner’s works, which is mysterious and unique. After that, he expressed his understanding of style, and he thinks that the style is only a branch of fashion, but not an element for a real piece of art. At last, he showed some works painted by himself as well as other works he had seen in Taiwan National Sea Marine Museum, which surprised the students a lot.
In the last section, many students were very active to ask questions, and Mr. Craig Voligny answered all the questions patiently. All the students enjoyed Mr. Craig Voligny’s lecture and were deeply impressed by his humor. Many students said they learned a lot from the lecture.
