The English corner was held on 14th of November in the library. Mr. Craig Voligny, Mr. Dallas, Mr. Gerard Brent, Dr. Sophia Pimentel Bascaia, Ms. Linda Visner and Mr. Christopher Dockstader attended the activity. With students’ enthusiasm and teachers'' humor, the library was filled with laughter and joy.
College is an essential experience for personal growth, and it''s a stage which leads students to have a better understanding of the world and themselves. Linda pointed out that the education systems of China and western countries are different. She said, although the education resources in China are not enough for the large population, China has made a good use of the limited resource and made a great progress in the field of education. In western colleges, the tuition fee is usually too high for common students, therefore lots of them have many kinds of part-time jobs to support their expenses. And in this way, the western students are more independent on finance than Chinese students. Linda also told the students that she would send her four-year-old son to study in a Chinese kindergarten, as she hoped that her son could learn Chinese well. Also Mr. Dallas shared his romantic stories when he was a college student. He thinks confidence is the most attractive feature of one person. Besides, Dr. Sophia Pimentel Bascaia gave the students some valuable advice, and she expected the students to be self-disciplined and to learn how to confront difficulties by themselves.
The students had good communication with the foreign teachers and didn''t leave until 8:30p.m. They not only practiced oral English, but also earned precious friendship in the English corner.
