The School of Foreign Languages held the opening ceremony for the freshmen in Room A111 of Liyun Building at 7:30 p.m. on September15.
First of all, Doctor and Professor Tao Wenhao, Dean of the SFL, addressed the meeting. He made a general introduction to the teaching staff and the freshmen of 2012. Then he told the audience that the guideline of the school was “diligence, honesty and innovation”. He said that the feature of the major teaching was “bilingual and double major”. He also encouraged the freshmen to nurture their interests in language learning and work hard at their study on the beautiful campus surrounded by the Phoenix Mountain and the Dragon Mountain.
Then, on behalf of the Chinese teachers, Ms. Li Lei, Ms Huang Ju and Dr. Shen Yingji gave speeches in English, French and Japanese respectively. They congratulated the freshmen on their accomplishment and told them to cherish and make good use of the time on campus to study. After that, Dr. David Matthew conduct, on behalf of the overseas teachers gave a speech. David expressed his enthusiasm for China and encouraged students to become an excellent person in society.
Two senior students, Wang Can and Tang Xiuxiu shared their experience in learning and living in our university. And Xie Zhijing, representing the freshman of the first batch of graduates of SFL, made a speech, telling the audience the reason she chose her major was that she wanted to be a teacher. On behalf of the freshmen of the undergraduates, Yan Shuo expressed her excitement and her determination to become a good student.
The ceremony ended with a wonderful video which was made by the school as a gift to the freshmen and newly-employed teachers. The speeches were inspiring and the freshmen were all excited and full of confidence towards their new life here. (By Zeng Yi)
