I grew up in the New Mexico desert in the United States. I earned a Master of Arts degree in English and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I have taught English for ten years, three of which were spent in Taipei, Taiwan, where I taught mostly English speaking and listening courses. In the U.S. the majority of the courses I taught were writing-based, including developmental, rhetoric, and literature. I’ve spent the last three years teaching on the U.S. border with Mexico, and many of my students came from Mexico. This allowed me to learn more about the Mexican culture than what I had accumulated from my years in New Mexico, a state which, in addition to Mexican food, employs dozens of additional facets of our neighbor such as Mexican holidays and architectural design.

While my hobbies tend to be broad, I focus on some more than others. I enjoy writing poetry and fiction. My first novel The Preacher was published by David C. Cook Publishing in 2009. I’ve also published poetry and fiction in a handful of U.S. literary journals. In addition to writing, I love to play the guitar and sing, and at some point I would be interested in recording some songs. Athletically, I prefer swimming. Professional basketball is probably my favorite spectator sport, and I’m excited to see that the Guangdong Sports channel televises several NBA games a week. My favorite team is the Boston Celtics.
