The English corner was held on 21st of November at 6 p.m. in the library. Mr. Christopher Dockstader, Mr. Michael Beauchot, Mr. Andrew Chun, Mr. Brian Harrison and Mr. Dallas attended the activity. Students were so excited to communicate with overseas teachers, which made everyone immersed in happiness.
As the old saying goes, food is one of the most essential joy for human beings, and everybody likes it. Mr. Andrew Chun expressed his passion for cooking and his preference to Chongqing food, especially the hot pot with spicy and rich taste. He also mentioned that he would cook by himself. He said that, "if you want to treat yourself well, treat your stomach well", which won the students’ agreement.
On the other side, Mr. Dallas mainly discussed the relationship between men and women. He pointed out that the divorce rate is almost 50% which was resulted by problems like misunderstanding, unsatisfaction with reality, wider contacts with friends in the opposite sex and inequality between male and female etc. Some students thought the overflow feminist ideology would impact on modern women''s standard of behavior, so we should regard it dialectically. Eventually, Mr. Dallas drew a conclusion that marriage was worth cherishing, and required mutual effort to maintain. Also Mr. Dallas hoped the students could distinguish love and marriage in the future so that they can take the responsibility to uphold their family.
As a platform for students to exchange their view, English corner was more like a bridge linking the cultures of different countries. It not only made everyone get familiar with the western culture but also reduced the distance of their mind.
